The Grimm Brothers fairytale, Thumbelina, inspired this project. The first image depicts Thumbelina stuck on a water lily floating down a river as the swallow bird whom she befriends looks down on her before saving her. The second piece in this project represents Thumbelina at the end of the story when she receives her fly wings from small woodland creatures. Both 9x12" pieces were done with graphite, watercolor, and masking glue.
